「かわいい？それとも怖い？」と聞かれても、返答に困る外見。たしかに口元と耳はうさぎそっくりではあるけれど、テクスチャが違いすぎる。
このツイートをみてGiant African Land Snailを検索したら、超危険なアフリカマイマイが出てきてびっくり。素手で触って大丈夫なのかと調べてみたら、「Giant African land snail」と呼ばれるされるカタツムリは3種類あることが判明。
種類が違うから大丈夫なようです。
このカタツムリはメノウアフリカマイマイというらしく、ツイッターのたぶんこれですね。
それぞれ呼び方は異なるものの、ややこしすぎ。

アフリカマイマイだとこんなに危ないカタツムリ
日本では植物防疫法により有害動物指定を受けており、分布地からの生体の持ち込みは原則禁止されており、世界各国でも本種の生体の持ち込みは禁止されている。一方で外来生物法においても生態系被害防止外来種に指定されており、世界の侵略的外来種ワースト100 (IUCN, 2000) 選定種にもなっている。
本種を中間宿主とする寄生虫（広東住血線虫）は、人間に寄生した場合、好酸球性髄膜脳炎を引き起こす危険があり、場合によっては死に至る。触る、這った跡に触れる等してもこの寄生虫に寄生される危険がある。

臨床症状
2〜35日（平均16日）の潜伏期の後発症し、患者は微熱から中等度の発熱、激しい頭痛、 Brudzinski徴候、項部硬直、悪心、嘔吐、Kernig徴候、脳神経麻痺などを示し、さらに筋力の著しい低下、知覚異常、四肢の疼痛などを示すこ ともある。その他、複視、運動失調などを示す 場合があり、感染虫体数が多い重篤例では昏睡に陥ったり、死亡する場合もある。本症の典 型例では症状が2〜4週間続くが、自然に緩解・治癒し、通常予後はよい。まれに失明、知能遅延、てんかんなどの後遺症を遺すことがある。また、極めてまれ ではあるが、ヒトの肺動脈から 虫体が検出されることもある。広東住血線虫症とは（国立感染症研究所）
